Historic Beechwood Cemetery Company was established in 1868 by five community leaders, including Joseph Canby who served at its first President. The 16-acre property is set on high ground on the southwest village of Hulmelville. Mature trees, rolling hills and a small stream provide a serene setting for modern burials and for some very early one dating back as far as 1806. Today Beechwood Cemetery contains more than 2,500 burials and lots are still available for sale. In 2004, a beautiful columbarium was installed, which offers niches to house funeral urns, providing a tranquil setting for this who chose cremation.
